WHAT IS WELLNESS?

Wellness is like Lochness

How often do you hear this question? Wellness has become a part of our vocabulary, a part of our lives, but still when somebody asks: “What is wellness?” we struggle to find the answer.

There have been various attempts to define wellness. NWI says wellness is “an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence”, for Don Ardell “wellness is first and foremost a choice to assume responsibility for the quality of your life,” and John Travis in his Wellness Workbook has five definitions of wellness:

  • Wellness is a choice - a decision you make to move toward optimal health.
  • Wellness is a way of life – a lifestyle you design to achieve your highest potential for wellbeing.
  • Wellness is a process - a developing awareness that there is no endpoint, but that health and happiness are possible in each moment, here and now.
  • Wellness is a balanced channeling of energy - energy received from the environment, transformed within you, and returned to affect the world around you.
  • Wellness is the integration of body, mind, emotions, and spirit - the appreciation that everything you do, and think, and feel, and believe, has an impact on your state of health and the health of the world.
  • Wellness is the loving acceptance of yourself.

Wellcome, our courses and lives follow the 12 dimensions of wellness from John Travis. Many definitions of wellness and even more theories of healthy life are to be tried out before one chooses the right one for herself. We have done this job for you and so far the concept described in John Travis´s Wellness Workbook remains in the heart of our philosophy and approach.

Unlike many other concepts, 12 dimensions of wellness are ready to be used here and now and they are valid as today as tomorrow. Below mentioned topics can be discussed with youngsters as with students, managers or seniors. We all breathe, move, have close relationships and need some sense in life (and much more).

Understand your wellness

Better understanding of the whole wellness approach is the core idea of our courses that can last from one-hour lectures, one-day workshops to 13-weeks courses. In the course you will learn how interconnected all wellness dimensions are, and how you can use the concept in your daily life. Wellness lifestyle is a set of small healthy steps, you can make your first steps under supervision of our lecturers.
